The view from our cabin at Kalaloch Lodge

Our first full day it was raining so we figured why not visit a Temperate Rain Forest!

The beginning of our hike in the Hoh Rain Forest

That tree is BIG!

These trees on in a row because they grew on top of a “Nurse log” - there is so little open ground in the rainforest, so the trees grow on top of other fallen trees.

Wow, big trees.

Later during our first day we decided to go on a hunt for tidepools so we could see starfish. Sure, it was raining, but that didn't stop us! We jsut had the beach to ourselves. We heard by these rocks was a good spot to look.

An interesting snail we saw on our way to the beach

dscn0104.jpg

Ah hah! STARFISH!

LOTS and LOTS of Starfish! It was our lucky day.

dscn0111.jpg

The next day we went to a spot called Ruby Beach. The only beach reachable by road in the park with “seastacks”. It was foggy but that made the beach look all the more mystical.

dscn0116.jpg

Another beach we ventured to later in the day. You can see the waves washing in large pieces of driftwood.

dscn0122.jpg

After leaving Kalaloch we went to a B & B called the Hidden Haven, here's our cottage.

Lake Cresent, near the north central part of the park, right near out new lodging place

Tim, ALMOST walking on water :)

dscn0138.jpg

Salmon Cascades! They were too fast to catch a photo, but we saw many salmon making the journey up river, trying to get up these cascades. A sight neither of us had ever seen - amazing creatures!

The woods near the Salmon Cascades.

Hmmm, I feel short.

Hiking to Sol Duc Falls.

Sol Duc Falls! They were too high to get in one shot, check out the next few photos of the bridge we took this from and you'll see what I mean!

Where's Jennifer? The bridge over Sol Duc Falls. I hope those trees holding it up aren't too rotted!

Where's Tim?

A busy spider by Sol Duc Falls

That's one BIG maple leaf!

The drive to Hurricane Ridge. We're going up!

By the time we got to the top of Hurrican Ridge we were in the clouds. Pretty cool view anyway.

dscn0031-1.jpg

Hmmm, I think this chipmunk at Hurricane Ridge has been fed by humans a FEW too many times! Naughty humans.

Just outside Port Angeles, the town on the north end of the park there is this interested “Dungeness Spit”

Here is how it looks from above. Apparently, at certain times of the year this is a great place to see seals.

Fungus among us!

A TINY mushroom

Lettuce Lichen - appropriate name!

Our hike up Storm King Mountain begins, we hadn't seen it on a map, so little did we know we were about to begin a 4,000 foot ascent!

Nearly to the top, and our legs are feeling it! A view of Lake Cresent from above.

dscn0080.jpg

Don't look down!

dscn0084.jpg

TIm at the top, or as close to the top as the trial lets you get.

dscn0086.jpg

We finally made it - that was a long hike.

I guess we COULD go further, but considering the signs says “End of Maintained Trail. Steep Cliffs Ahead” we decided dying on our honeymoon wouldn't make for a very happy ending.

A Gray Jay - territorial little birds, they were dive bombing us :)

dscn0096.jpg

Back at Lake Crescent level, point to the mountain we just climbed. A great last day of our honeymoon!

What a great trip!
